Digital Gold

Start date: Aug. 18, 2018, 5 p.m. UTC
In how many ways can you split a kingdom into two parts, so that the parts contain equal number of gold mines?

ASML is the world's leading manufacturer of chip-making equipment . To help our customers to shrink the size of transistors on a chip, we continuously improve the capabilities of our systems to image smaller features with greater accuracy. It’s improvements like these that enable breakthrough technologies in areas like mobility, healthcare and connectivity. To society, silicon semiconductor chips are ‘digital gold’.

At ASML, software engineers work in different software expertise fields . In addition to the embedded software that controls our machines, we also build pure software products that help our customers to optimize chip designs for manufacturability. Yet another type of software is the connection between different machines: taking in measurements, calculating the necessary corrections and feeding them back to the lithography system to keep its performance stable. In that sense, the contributions that software developers make to ASML’s multi-billion euro successes are also ‘digital gold’.

Show us your coding skills to make it into the top 50 to be pre-selected for an all-expenses-paid trip to compete in our ASML Hackathon in Veldhoven, the Netherlands . We’ll arrange the trip for you, including a flight to the Netherlands. Want to stand out from the coding crowd and show the rest you’re the best? Start the challenge that could kickstart your success. Start coding some digital gold!

“Software at ASML ranges from embedded software to data science. Engineers have a chance to tackle interesting challenges in the domain they work on. From nanometer accuracy using real time operating systems to preemptive maintenance using data science. It is a joy to work in multidisciplinary teams to create and maintain future proof systems that contribute to chip-making equipment.”
